PATH Meeting on WHO Integrated PVS Toolkit for NTDs
On 30 July 2025, Kikundi cohosted a virtual meeting to discuss the development and implementation of the Post-Validation/Verification Surveillance (PVS) Toolkit for NTDs. The meeting brought together program managers and partners to review progress, share experiences from pilot countries, and discuss the application of the toolkit in strengthening integrated surveillance systems for neglected tropical diseases.
The toolkit was presented as a comprehensive resource designed to move beyond vertical approaches, encourage integration across diseases, and support mainstreaming into national health systems. The development process of the toolkit was reviewed, including evidence gathering, stakeholder consultations, pilot testing in multiple countries, and iterative refinement based on program manager feedback.
Practical insights from the pilot phase illustrated how Nigeria applied the toolkit in real-world settings, including sample collection, diagnostic approaches, and integration with existing health systems. Discussions underscored the importance of leveraging partnerships, engaging communities, and using lessons learned to continually improve the toolkit’s effectiveness and relevance.
This meeting underscored the significance of collaborative efforts in strengthening post-elimination surveillance for NTDs. By sharing experiences, tools, and strategies, countries and partners are better equipped to sustain elimination gains, prevent disease resurgence, and enhance the overall impact of national NTD programs.
